Materials
- Type of Wood/Material
High-end woods (e.g., rift white oak, walnut) or specialty materials (e.g., glass, metal) increase costs. While lower cost materials such as red oak, maple, or TFL’s (thermally fused melamine) can reduce the cost. - Finishes
Stains, paints, and special coatings (e.g., glazes, multi step, or distressed finishes) can add to the price. - Hardware
The quality of drawer slides, hinges, knobs, and pulls can significantly impact pricing. While there are cheaper alternatives, we choose to use only premium, top-of-the-line hardware. This is because we understand these are the components your family will use every day, and investing in high-quality hardware adds lasting value long after the sale. No more slamming doors or struggling to see the back of your drawers.
Design Complexity
- Door style
Doors styles range from a simple slab door to a highly detailed door with applied moldings, carvings, etc. - Cabinet style
Ranges from a simple frameless cabinet to highly detailed framed inset cabinet. - Custom Shapes and Sizes
More intricate designs or unusual dimensions (e.g., corner cabinets or special shapes) require extra time and effort. While simpler designs are faster to design, fabricate and install – reducing costs. - Custom Appliances
Whether built-in or panel-ready, they demand precise sizing and thoughtful design considerations, far surpassing the requirements of standard options. - Special Features
Features like pull-out shelves, integrated lighting, or built-in organizers add to labor and material costs.

Labor Costs
- Technical Design
Custom or one-of-a-kind designs require more time to prepare for production compared to standard items. Each component is precisely adjusted using our advanced software to ensure a perfect fit for your unique space and design, while maintaining structural integrity and meeting your exact specifications. - Craftsmanship
High-quality craftsmanship takes more time and skill, especially for custom designs that are built from scratch rather than assembled from stock pieces. - Finishing Time
Custom finishes, like hand-finishing or detailed distressing, can add significant labor costs.
Quantity of Cabinets
- One-Off Projects
Creating a single, custom piece will cost more due to the set-up time and lack of economy of scale. For example a single vanity may be priced substantially higher on it’s own rather than combined with a full home package. - Bulk Orders
Larger projects (e.g., a whole kitchen or whole home) might have a slightly reduced cost per unit, as setup time and resources can be spread over more pieces.

Design and Consultation Time
- Consultation and Design Work
Time spent designing custom pieces, drafting plans, and revising with the client affects the total price. - 3D Renderings and Samples
We provide detailed 3D renderings, plan/elevation drawings (including interior views where applicable), and sample pieces for approval. - Why is this important?
While this level of detail may increase the cost upfront, we believe it’s essential for ensuring a seamless process for all trades involved—whether it’s appliance placement, outlet positioning, lighting, or other elements. By addressing these aspects upfront, we can avoid any surprises during installation, ensuring everything fits perfectly and aligns with your expectations. Our thorough planning ensures a smooth and stress-free experience from start to finish.
Delivery and Install
- Installation
Complex installations, especially those requiring on-site customization, can increase costs. For instance, scribing panels is a meticulous process that takes more time than applying standard scribe molding or caulking. However, this extra effort ensures the premium look and high-quality finish that you can expect from Crosby Fine Cabinetry.
- Difficult Access
If the installation area has limited or challenging access, such as the jobsite itself, narrow doorways, elevators etc. These require additional planning and sometimes labor costs. - Size and Weight
Large cabinets may require special handling and transportation.
